What is a work order?

Work order is the basic unit of a Field Service engagement. Think of it like this: As a kid do you remember when your Mom asked you to do some kind of chores, like washing dishes or cleaning up your bed? That’s a work order. In Field Service terms you define what needs to be done on a piece of paper (in the olden days) and hand it over to your technician. With Field Service management software you’d open a form and punch in all the details and hit a button to push it to your mobile.

Once the technician completes the work order, he/she enters pertinent details, gets the signature of a client if that’s one of the requirements, and submits it back to the system. At this point, a supervisor reviews it for completeness.
